Hi all,

I have a Renault Clio 2004, 1.5dci and I'm lost on what to do with it. It's showing the P0340 fault code - 'Camshaft Position Sensor A - Bank 1 Circuit Malfunction'.

Purchased it in October, and it drove beautifully for the first two months. But after that, it started flashing up with the electrical fault light mainly when I drove at high speeds. When it popped up, my car felt sluggish - couldn't speed up with any urgency. Took it into the garage, and had the Camshaft position sensor changed... nothing. So I've now changed the MAP sensor and the Air Flow Meter as these faults came up on the fault reader too(?) Behold, it still has the same problem, its fine driving up to 35/40 mph and then anything above that it's incredibly sluggish (almost like there is no power under the accelerator) and the electrical fault light shows up until I slow back down to 40mph. It doesn't have a DPF so can't be that.

It also has a knack of cutting out and losing all power completely when I speed up fast (battery and stop lights come up). I have had the battery checked, and it is fine. The wiring has been checked around the Camshaft circuit - nothing unusual.

Does anybody have any ideas on what could be causing this? Do you suggest a battery change, or Cambelt?

Myself and my garage are extremely puzzled by this so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Was it P0340, Or just 340....
As the camshaft sensor runs off the fuel injector pump, would have been looking at cranksensor having a dirty tip...
But double check it was a P0 code and not a Hexadecimal code...

As long as it started with P0 and not just 340, clean the tip....
This is Renaults interpretation of P0340 = 0340 Cylinder reference sensor circuit
Now unless your Cam belt is due to be changed, reference is done off the fuel pump. This is worked out with relation of where the cam is, but if crank loses its signal, then because the cam sensor runs off the fuel pump sprocket.
It will give this fault..

Did you have Genuine parts fitted..
I know people dont like hearing this But you will not get better than Renault Genuine parts,
You have checked your Crank shaft sensor tip is clean..

Thanks for the reply. I decided to reset my ecu then give it a drive to see what happened. Sure enough after a little drive, plugged in diagnostic tool (albeit not a classy one) to find that it has come up with error codes related to the Turbocharger... thinking maybe wastegate stuck open? Hoping its not the entire unit... pics of errors attached - any help or opinions would be great! P0033 & P0235.
