Hi there!

I have a 2000 Espace 2.0, 16v and the ABS warning light stays on permanently. Where the clock and temp are usually displayed it now says "STOP" all the time.

The brakes work perfectly and just last week the car passed its MOT. I am guessing that there is a fault with one of the wheel sensors but how can I check that relatively quickly and easily?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi as you said its probely one of the sensors the best thing to do it go to a good independent garage and have them read the fault for you and this will then let you know which one it is and then you can just go ahead and change it job done!!, i hope this helps Donald.

Thanks for the advice; your reply arrived after I'd set out to have a look!

I took the NS front wheel off first just to have a look. With it off I found the wire from the brake pad wear sensor snapped. I know this is unrelated but why haven't I got a brake warning light up?

Anyway I couldn't remove the sensor, 4.5mm allen key and I only have 4 and 5 in my set, so just cleaned up the toothed wheel and checked the sensor connector - seemed OK.

Whilst under there it occurred to me that at the MOT, 6 days ago, they had reported having to resecure the OS drive shaft gaiter. I whipped that wheel off and what did I find? Grease all over the toothed wheel! Closer inspection showed that the gaiter clip had come off and was in fact now on the toothed wheel stopping the sensor from seeing any rotation!

Cleaned it all up, regreased, resecured the clip, and so far so good. It would seem that this clip hasn't damaged the sensor - phew!

Re: Renault Espace - ABS Light On

Hi, all,

I also have an problem with ABS light...

After switching the ignition on the red ABS icon comes up. The car didn't move a meter!

Reading the ABS computer it says: No fault code.

Watching the datastream: all the wheels rotating with the same speed.

Has anyone saw like this?

Hi cloudless.
I too had the ABS light on.
After my local garage changing the unit twice it seemed that there was an underlying fault.
It seemed that most of the wiring had corroded and there was a short of somesort to earth.
Changed all the wiring to the ABS unit regardless of corrosion.
Switched on and all was clear. Has been the same now for 18 months and no more faults.
The ABS unit is under the battery plate where the battery sits.
The easy way to get to it is to remove the nearside wheel and the black plastic wheel arch.
To the front there is a steel unit with wires and brake tubes going to and from it.
Check the wiring.

Wayne.
