Any one help me out I've fitted a new fuel pump (common rail) and timing belt, all done checked timing all spot on, im not getting fuel from the filter to the pump, there is no primer as I can see, what's the process to bleed it I thought there was a pump that came on for 30 sec to fill the filter and pipework ?

hi you need to bleed from the top of the fuel rail where the pipe goes down into the rail which is coming from the back of the diesel timing pump its something like a 21mm spanner, this will remove the air from the timing pump, you need to bleed the injectors individually with the iginition lights on but engine not running for the whole procedure. hopes this help as have 2003 1.9 dci scenic. Just 1? is there fuel in the big black filter on the left had side of the bay with 4/5 clear fuel lines coming out and can you see fuel/air in them or fuel moving when iginition lights on

when the ignition is on there is no movement of fuel in the clear pipes coming from the filter, where is the low pressure pump as I think its dead, the Rac bloke told me that it was the high pressure pump that had gone so I replaced the pump and the timing belt too but like you say when I turn the key to position 2 its supposed to turn a electronic pump on for 30 seconds so I've been told this pumps fuel to the high pressure pump and bleeds any air from the system.

So im hoping its a fuse or the low pressure pump is on the outside of the tank as the tank is full.

If the fuel system has no manual primer then it will have an electric primary pump - usually fitted around the fornt right wheel arch area - tracing the fuel pipes back form the filter should help you locate it. It has a pressure switch which regulates when the pump activates - usually at start up or at times of high demand. Obviously depending on how long the car sits the time will vary.

To date I have never came across a diesel Renault car with a primary pump inside the fuel tank.
