Hi, I have a 2000 Scenic RXE Auto which I have had since new.
Went to check the oil but the bonnet release lever won't operate the catch. I cant get my hand through the grill and am unable to access it from underneath. Has anyone come across this problem before or have any ideas how to get the bonnet open? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Had this issue with a megane. Managed to squirt some easing oil in through the grill in the general direction of the bonnet latch & spring.

After some cussing, got someone to pull, not heave, on the release lever and keep it pulled while I tugged the edge of the bonnet up.

The problem is the collet holding the spring, poking down from the centre of the bonnet isn't travelling up and down the post in the centre of the spring. So when you do eventually release it, try and get some grease on the centre pole, push the sping up and down a couple of times to get it moving freely.

Hi, I've got the grills off and can see where the cable enters the mechanism but cannot see the actual catch. I have soaked the whole unit in WD40 and am going to leave it overnight and see what happens in the morning. The plastic clips of the grills have broken off but I can refit them on silicone sealant.
