It did it again today on my way to work, 20 mins into the journey, hasn't done it since, drove the car about 30 miles after the light,

Brake fluid levels are ok, rear brake pads and discs look like they need replacing though

The beep is the car computer flagging up there's an uncleared fault code its found. Dealer will hook up the Renault diagnostic computer and clear it in a matter of minutes. if not cleared after a while it'll start to beep at you during engine start up procedure.

The computer records all faults even the minor ones that are not an immediate operating issue and keeps them in its memory. Then at dealer service downloads all the fault codes to the dealers computer so dealer knows what to fix and clears the memory. When the memory is full or a significant fault occurs and the dashboard stop light's come on it beeps too. If you've got the stop light coming on and off and the alarm going off too then I'd get the car to the dealer asap. There's an aftermarket gizmo u can buy to plug into the diagnostic socket under the centre console but you'll also need the fault code list to understand what the alphanumeric codes mean.
