Upgrading Speakers in Laguna II

Hey everyone, I'm still relatively new here but was wondering if many of you had upgraded your speakers in your Lags?

I have recently upgraded my head unit to a JVC which I had in my previous car. The sound quality is much better, not to mention I now have a direct ipod input etc. but I have founf that the speakers in the rear doors rattle almost all the time and the front ones rattle at higher volumes. I have looked through the forums and a few websites to get some ideas and to begin with I am thinking about just upgrading the rear door speakers to a set of coaxil ones. From then on I'll see if it makes sufficient difference or if I need to upgrade the front ones too. If anyone has upgraded the front ones, did you bother upgrading the tweeters too? or are the standard ones okay?

I just wondered if any of you could give an opinion on the above, or if anyone had any advice?

Cheers

G.

for direct replacment units to existing wiring harness try these

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4826.html
the front speakers are a must imo as the std units are poor imo

i use vibe speakers which are harder to fit as you have to cut and splice the loom to fit but the sound quality is better than the pioneer, but if you are after a good upgrade and hassle free fitting pick the pioneer speakers

cheers lad, I think I'll have the grilles off and take a look sometime this week. If I decided to change the tweeters too, does it entail a lot of dismateling of the dash and I'll be honest that puts me off.

If I decide to upgrade the component speakers in the front of my car, does it matter if I just put single speakers or coaxil speakers in the rear? Any advice?

For the front doors just prise off the grilles with a screwdriver, remove the two Torx screws holding the speaker in, unplug the connector, then replace with the new speaker and press the grille back into position. Do the same for the rear doors. You will also see the tweeters in there, prise those out, swap connectors and the new ones just click into place. The front tweeters are on top of the dash, again, just prise off the grilles with a smaller screwdriver ( a bit fiddly because of the windscreen angle) and they swap out just the same as the rears. That's the beauty of the Pioneers, they are Renault specific.

My first post on here....

I just got a Lag II a couple of weeks back, and the rear speakers rattled really badly at higher volumes. Removed the grilles as described here to investigate, and to my amazement the rattling dissapeared !!.

Grilles are now back on and the rattling has gone (for now)

Could be worth a go to cure it in the short term...

Yeah I have had a similar experience when I took my grilles off to check the speaker sizes etc. I think its probably just a variation in the sound proofing/tightness of the grilles etc which can lead to a rattle at certain frequencies. Saying that my standard speakers still rattle on their own at higher volumes on certain CDs, so I think I'll still be replacing the speakers. Debating whether to replace all with component units or coaxils etc. at the monent. I'm not after mega-bass type sound, just something clear with no rattle. At the moment I think I'll be going with the pioneer componenet kit :http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=TSQ131C in the front and maybe some coaxils or just dual cones in the back. Will let you all know how it goes anyway.

doh!

So I ordered some new component speakers from www.caraudiosecurity.com (resonably helpful people), specifically the Alpine SXE-1350S rather than the made for Renault Pioneer ones as I am working to a budget.

Attempted to fit them today, looks like Woofer units will slot in fine, once I have removed two of the securing units as the Laguna door only has room for the speaker to be fastened in two places. the tweeters howver are a different matter all together. Neither front or back are anywhere near fitting into the standard holes and no mateer how mych I figit with the supplied fitting adapters, they just won;t go in. Bugger. I'm not at a cross roads, return the speakers and end up out of pocket on postage etc. and pay more for the Pioneers which apparently do fit (but are beyond my budget), or carve up the adaptor kits etc. to customize them into fitting, hmmmm....

Speakers Now Installed!

Well after faffing around with the fitting adaptors that came with my Alpines, a pointless visit to Halfords and some stupid mistakes, I have finished installing my speakers.

(NB. It is worth passing on to you good Renault owners that Halfords, despite the largest most recognised chain of stores aimed at general car maintainence, don;t actually stock anything useful like Speaker harness adaptors. Save yourself the trouble, just tear off the adaptors and put you own spade connectors on, easy!)

I learned that working to a budget today comes at another cost, the speakers I had got were not 100% compatible with my Lag II so I had to make some modifications ot them. Firstly on the Woofer units I had to cut off two of the four fitting lugs as the Lag door only has room for two. Then the tweeters were smaller than the factory ones, so I had to faff on wit the supplied fitting adaptors and drill a few holes here and there, but ultimately they all gone in. The only real pain in the ¤¤¤¤ was when I accidently dropped one of the tweeters down the hole in the dash and had to dismantle the whole flaming dash to retrive it. Note to others who have asked how to dismantle a Lag dash, don't bother, ever...even with instructions. Just step away from the car and go make a cup of tea instead.

So I've been out for a drive with my CD player turned up to 11 (coz its one louder innit!) and beyond and they sound bloody great! No more buzzing, no more distorting at loud levels and the new tweeters are so clear. Iron Maiden never sounded so good in my car!

My next project is swapping the black plastic trim piece on the front bumper for one that will allow me to install front fog lamps. Already searching the breakers for the trim...

I know that i am resurrecting an old thread but its better than staring new.

Anyhow, i have tried to purchase some Pioneer TS-Q131C but without success due to the lack of them available, i have been looking at other 13cm speakers but do not want to take the plunge and them not fitting i.e http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4581.html
as i think that i may fall foul with the fitting depth.

Are there any other Higher quality speakers that you could recommend?

Regards

Paul

Sorry to drag up an old thread but
I'm fitting some focal components all round
The back ones are easy but the front ones are giving me a headache because the tweeters are in the dash rather than next to the mid-range like they are in the back
So couple of quick questions
The focals need to use the cross-over supplied and i dont want to have to drill holes or replace wiring
I've read in the forum that you can take the feed from under the dash and then split it to the tweeter and cut into the wiring for the mid under the dash
Does anyone know where the wires are and what colour I need to look for???
I've checked the Haynes Manual and it doesn't even show the wiring diagram for the stereo

Oh should have mentioned that my laguna is a 2002 initiale estate with the sat nav and the carbasse system

Thanks for your help guys

Ian
