Hi allI have a Renault Clio Dynamique 2003. Was just wondering what the Idle speed should be? it idles at about 550-ish all the time seems to be low as cant ride the clutch in traffic etc biting point is really high.

it idles a little bit rough sometimes, particularly when warming up, was hurrendous before I changed sparks and pencil coils though, but still will a bit of redex cure this maybe?

Cheers

Do you find the issue is there mainly at cold start in the morning or is it there even after a good run of say an hour or so? If its just at cold then the CTS is the most likely culprit.

Ideally the car needs a diagnostic session to see what tales the live data tell. Anything else prior to doing that is pure speculation and I wouldn't spend any money without proving the fault first.

Hello mate The issue is only there if I havent used the car for say maybe a day or so, after a run out of 5 odd minutes there isnt really any issues to note.

I have just started letting the car warm up for 5mintues before driving off to get it up to optimum running temp, still idles at 510rpm. The CTS?

Possibly yes but as said before, its purely speculation at the minute as I've not seen the car or the live data its running on. As Mad said, check the connectors as it costs nothing; infact, disconnect the multiplug and see if your problem disappears... it will be safe to start it without a CTS signal to base temp corrections on as it will go to a known lookup table.

I don't have my camera to hand or else I'd post an example. The missus is in Portugal with the girls for another week and has taken it as I threw hers to the ground at the O2 recently.

Its normally located on the RH side of the engine screwed in to the cylinder head or thermostat housing. 21mm nut with a black or green plastic boss sticking out... two wires coming from it. It usually has a black multiplug on it but I can't describe it any better i'm afraid... a picture speaks a thousand words as they say.

Mine occasionally does this, as well as more often idling a bit high (1500 or so, typically), eventually settling back to the 750-1000 range with occasional relapses. Definitely nowhere near as happy about the idea of noodling along in stop-start traffic with no throttle as other cars I've driven, though it's ok once rolling. Would it be a similar cause or more likely the ICV and all that?

I'm assuming CTS = coolant temperature sensor? (Mad funz had with a defective one of those on a previous car - if the effects are similar, markis, you should be able to hear a definite change in idle speed and tone between connected and disconnected. Swapping them's a pain because you either have to drain the coolant or do a real fast swap with the engine cold... and antifreeze gushing everywhere).

But what is Ho2?
