Hey All
Can someone please shed some light on which battery i need for the above...
Is it type 027 or 063?
Haven't been able to glean any info...its all very confusing.
The car starts most times but on the odd occasion it will just not supply enough juice to the starter motor, all the electrics start whirring and flashing then....nothing. Leaving it for 45 minutes sees it start again ???
Any/ALL help will be most appreciated.
Thanks

Some 20 years ago, my old battery was failing,it was like 42 ah or something.Anyway I decided to replace it with a bigger more powerfull one that was also listed for the car.A 60 ah one or similar
It was bigger physically too..must be better right?

Thing is the other model of the same car had a higher output alternator (mainly cos there were more accessories /higher demand).
I didnt realise this at the time but it seems my alternator wasnt charging the battery properly at low rpm and the consequent not fully charged battery wore out more rapidly than normal.
See above post for maintenance considerations and dont go above the ah capacity unless your alternator is upgraded too.

Euro Car Parts also sell on ebay and their prices are often cheaper on there than on their own website, even with the special offer code !

Take for example a Bosch S3 027 Battery (ECP part# 444770275)

On ebay it is £51.99 (click & collect from a ECP branch or free standard delivery) Link to battery on ebay

On ECP website it comes to £64.26 using promo code "Battery15" (click & collect from a ECP branch or free standard delivery)

That's a saving of £12.27 on exactly the same battery from exactly the same place but ordered through ebay !

Cheers. ;)

(prices correct at time of posting)

On Wednesday ECP sold me, at the Nottingham counter, a Lion 065 52Ah (444770651) as a compatible battery for a Mk2 Scenic for £32.50 :d Only time will tell, not fitted yet as the car is in Cambelt, water pump, airfilter, replace mode also clean & WD40 the fuse box ATM.

Things may be differnt now, also if the alternator is the same for the higher ah rating battery, might be fine.
On mine(non renault) that was the diagnosis(sucky alternator otput at low revs) for the short lifespan, about a year..
The exact figures Im not sure on but it was 42 something to 60 something.
Thing went thru 3 starter motors also(on one just the solenoid went) so perhaps there were other issues.
Like diesel engine batteries are generally higher capacity for glow heating to overcome the compression starting whether the rest of the system is different to petrol renaults ,havent checked
The next battery lasted longer, a couple of years anyway till I got rid so :idunno:

I do remember something about a slight system voltage drop if you use a too high capacity battery ,or at least one higher than the original.Perhaps 45 min to 60 max is an acceptable range?.
Im thinking in terms of lets say you go from 13.5 V to 13.05 V or similar..no biggie butconsider your spark plugs at 20,000 V +,what does that voltage drop to ?.

I ran a six volt car for awhile(my first).Yeh a beetle :0. Our ages werent dissimilar. It got to the point that there were only 2 ways to start it,Bump start or ever ready.
If no additional pushers were around, then on a cold school morning,Id have to wire up a big torch battery to the ignition coil terminals. You know the type, still available.
Expensive ,the torch batteries didnt last that long :0
