I have just removed both front seats to look for answers to my airbag warning light. I found that one of the wires under the drivers seat had come away. After reconnecting this wire( actually bypassing the connector block ,not quite enough wire to connect into block)The warning light is still illuminating so does this need to be reset or something?

Had the same fault reset on my Espace 2.2dt last week long and short answer is that I spent hours looking for a fault side airbags, clockspring, passenger airbags, pretensioners, that was no longer present ie I think there had been a problem with the side bags and the code had been logged. On the espace it requires to be reset with a can clip ,it cost me £90.I was under the impression once a fault was cleared so did the warning, apparently not the case. The connectors under the seats, I cut off the connectors ,soldered the wires together and covered with heat shrink, leaving the pretensioners and airbags in circuit obviously, you can't short any of the parts out the ecu is looking for the resistance of the components on self test, and I would assume could lead to damage of the ECU.Remember to take precautions when checking the airbag components.Think in the end without the proper equipment ie xr25 or suitable canclip you can only check really for disconnection of plugs/sockets,broken cables etc, once you've done that you're forced to visit a garage with suitable equipment, you are left in the position like me where you have cleared the fault but are unaware of that because the screen is telling you otherwise.Good Luck

So are you saying that I may have fixed the original problem (blue wire obviously disconnected from brown connector-please excuse my technical description-which I have now connected again). And the airbag warning light will still illuminate until reset? I asked someone this question earlier and they said that once it is all connected properly the airbag light will not illuminate. So in short do I need to get this reset or could there be other issues. One last question-what sort of price would I be looking at for resetting? Many thanks in advance.

Hi There,

Yes unfortunately you will have to get the warning reset. Like you I was under the impression that once the original fault is fixed the warning is extinguished, but this dosen't appear to be the case.I was a total of £90 to have it reset, and indeed the original fault was the side airbag or connector under the seat.I chased for days metering out all the interconnecting cabling as well as the coponents associated with the airbag, when in actual fact I could have faulted untill eternity, the warning was always going to stay on.The law changed in January so the warning lamp on the dash for airbags ,abs or any similar safety related device(as well as other things) is now an automatic fail.In the end I simply tidied up the cabling under the seat, and left it at that, much to my displeasure of course.

Kind Regards

Hi all, I have checked all of the wiring under the seats ( probably about as far as I dare to go). I enquired at a Renault garage and they said that it should go out once all of the connections are in place and that there should be no need to get the fault removed. I think that what they are saying is that on ignition all of the electrical connections are checked and if they are OK then it should self extinguish and not need to be reset. Can anyone please tell me what exactly is the answer.

I can tell you that on the Clio what Renault say is correct once the faults ie bad connections are fixed then the lights go out, I would think it's the same on your car, the wire goes from under the seats to the air bags and pretensioners and I believe is connected by a plug that can also cause bad connections, I don't know were exactly this will be on your car, maybe in the door pillar were the seat belt tensioner's are or possibly on the bottom of the anchorage for the belts between the seats.
