Hi there,
Can anyone explain how to remove the black plastic cowling to get access to the glow plugs.
I have this Mk3 1.5dci engine. See image:

https://ssli.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/z/qhgAAOSw~gRVqQ5e/$_86.JPG

I want to replace the glow plugs but I can't yet as I don't know how to remove the black plastic engine cover in the centre of the image (it's got Renault 110 Dci on the lid).
It can be simply unbolted or unscrewed but the the pipe that runs right over the top prevents me from taking it off.

What do I need to do to get the pipe off?

I asked at my local garage and they want £156 (inc VAT). I want to do it myself but first I need to remove the plastic engine cover.

Any advice is gratefully received, pics would be helpful too because there are lots of helpful images and videos for working on the MK1s and MK2s but hardly anything about these newer models.

Thank you.

as a attempt to be helpfull, all that black plastic stuff on top has to come off....

they really cram it in these days, so much so if you want to service the car its a complete stripdown/engine out job.... (and an insane service bill)

Just to give a bit of information to anyone doing this in future, its fiddly enough but not to bad.

Changed all 4 yesterday in about an hour and most of that time was actually getting to the glow plugs and finding the tools in work!

The (radiator?) pipe across the cover can be removed by a metal ring/ spring clip at each end. This is quite hard to pull especially the back one but once it is shifted the whole pipe can lift out of the way. Oh once the bolt is also removed from the top bracket (10mm socket)

I also loosed the jubilee clip (7mm socket) over the pipe on the right hand side as it stopped the cover lifting, loosed the two bolts holding the funnel to pour the oil in, and popped out the black plastic fitting carefully with a screwdriver that the wires are in.

The cover should lift off now and there are the glow plugs! Just like every other video, except they seem to be deeper meaning you need a longer socket extension to access them (10mm Socket). I needed a drop of WD40 to loosen them but weren't too difficult to get out after that (I did use a magnet as a cheat to catch them and pull them out!)

When I tested the old ones, one was dead, one was on its way two were ok. I changed all 4 but that explains why it does eventually start in the cold, just takes a while... New ones work a treat! Bought BERU ones for about £60 total, but saved spending £130 for someone else to do it!

Just put everything back on in reverse order, again those metal clips are tricky but just persevere!

Hope it helps anyone else in future, found it a nightmare finding what I was looking for for a MK3 Megane!

Cheers

Dont ,, you wont be able to get a jubilee clip to work
All clips if you mean the thin band clip, lifts up, screwdriver in the point that is slightly sticking up, use the screwdriver as a lever, cloth over the clip, this will stop it firing off and losing it.
Once clip is out, a thin bladed screwdriver between the two parts that you can just see the lip on, these pipes just push together and the clip locks them.
When refitting, put the clip on, then force both halves together, you will hear a click to say they have locked..

IF still unsure, post pictures, as these pipes are mega expensive..

Hi

Sorry I've been fairly behind in actually doing this myself and while my car was in for its service i asked how much it would be to change (not including the glowplug itself). I was told it would be £180 for the 1 glow plug. Im still scraping my jaw off the floor. I have have had a look around and also kept examining the engine bay too to actually find how to do this and i suspect i've got it. Just need the time now.

Marked in red are all the parts you need to loosen off in order to actually get the black cover off alone from what i can see. I've not done this yet myself however hopefully it'll help.

I'll keep you updated on my progress. Again sorry for any delays

1.5 CDI DYNAMIQUE ENGINE COVER REMOVAL. I'm looking to remove cover, checked all bolts today no problem, the only headache is the stainless steel pipe above the cover. Spring clip near bulkhead no problem, the steel pipe clamp near front vehicle has no lugs /ears and therefore nothing to grip onto. I'm now considering grinding through clip (tentatively) and installing stainless steel jubilee clip.
Has anyone any positive advice - not stupid comments. Much obliged
