I would expect a helluva lot of work such as engine mounts, tramsmission, ECU, uprating suspension, wiring looms and brakes to cope with the extra weight, etc.:) Nothing is impossible given, enough time, money and skill. That's assumig the zip fasteners holding the engines into the cars ain't stuck - only joking:d

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

I've got to be honest,if the engine is an 8 valve 2 litre the hard work fitting it isn't really worth it as whilst it's a very strong and reliable engine,it ain't no rocket.

The 16 valve engine is better, but much more difficult to fit as it's much wider (front to back) and this will make fitting it into the Clio engine bay a right pain. The 1.8 16 valve Clio 1's have very little room around them and that engine is smaller physically than the 2 litre.

I'm not trying to put you off (honest:eek:) it's just that there is a fairish amount of work involved and the gains you'll get with the 8 valve engine aren't great, probably no better than a standard 1.8 8valve Clio 1 RSi.

thanks for the info guys!!

but i need to know if the engine will bolt in or wheter the chassis has to be considerably changed. i have suspension(Weitec Hicon GT Coilovers), brakes (4 pot brembos with custom mounts)and a mate is gonna help me build a custom cage so that side of things is sorted but has eaten a lot my bank account and as this engine is free and has only done 13k i wanna fit it even as a stop gap until funds allow otherwise. also do clio williams or any mk1 clio have rear brakes as that is also on my todo list.

Guys please tell me im done the right thing by sellinone of my xe novas, a mint saloon!!!!

Your mate that's doing the cage....does he design and make cages for a living?

Cages are a bit of an art, if any of the design, material selection or welding isn't up to spec, you'd probably be better off without one.

If you do go ahead with a cage, only drive the car when you're wearing a helmet.

I think that depends on the track and the event Noel

If it's going to race then I'm pretty sure that it'll need to be an approved design to pass scrutineering, but I'm not sure if the manufacturer needs to be approved:eek:

The cage is being done by a friend who use to build professional race cars and his son who is studying motorsport at college, my friend called mike spent 30 years building race cars even working with Franco Sbarro!!

Are you going to race it or use it for trackdays Laclio?

i have yet to buy the clio i am still looking for one with mechanical faults thus cheaper. the coilovers and brakes are from a mates track car, his car is english but it now resides in spain with him. he is selling the parts to raise cash for his 172 engined R5 project which is an animal!!! he has persuaded me that the clio will be more fun than the nova so im on the lookout for a tidy shell more than anything.

cheers for all the info guys, the laguna engine isnt sounding so good wat else is there and the sort of price range there in, i wanna N/A engine really. the car will be used for trackdays and then possibly some autotests. I'll keeep the car road legal but i have driven a friends stripped out track car and its noisy so it certainly wont be a daily!!:d
