The power steering pump on my 2001 Espace 2.2dCi has popped the back cover off. Although replacing it looks like it should be simple, I have the following questions which I would really appreciate suggestions for!
- I cannot see how to take the tension off the belt, and more importantly how to adjust the tension afterwards - the two idler wheels both have a single hex bolt in the centre which doesn't look like a cam-type adjustment. If it's a spring tensioner, do I risk a major spring incident if I don't do things correctly?!
- Is there any point in trying to fix the pump or exchange it for a reconditioned unit? If so, where can I find somewhere that would do this? I've tried the local parts suppliers but this pump seems to be a main dealer only part who are quoting about £110+VAT - does this sound reasonable?
- Should I be checking for faults in the rack or are the pumps prone to this? It was during a 3-point turn that the pump blew up so this might have something to do with it...
