Forte Injector cleaner

Hi all,

Anyone used the 'Forte' Diesel injector cleaner on their vehicle? I have heard that this is s**t hot at de-coking the fuel system and injectors. I have an intermittent 'check injectors' message on my dash and not inclined to take it to the garage.

Anyone know where I can purchase?

Hello,

When I got a motrio service done at my local Renault dealer on my grandparents Renault Modus 1.6 petrol auto I went for the go green option which cost an extra £20 and was them using forte engine flush and a forte fuel system cleaner. Did I notice a difference? Well it was not running badly before but I suppose it was a little smoother and acceleration was slightly better. What car have you got and how old is it. Does it have a fap filter and is it mainly run around town. If your car is a diesel (especially with a fap filter) and you are doing short runs from cold and running the car at low speeds (30mph) in too high a gear (4th or 5th instead of 3rd) that can cause the injectors and fap filter to block up as the engine is at its most efficient when its working for its living. What I would suggest is by all means use a forte injector cleaner and give your car a good blast up the motorway regularly getting the revs up. That my clear things and extinguish the emissions light. If that doesn't work (it will benefit your cars engine) then I am afraid its a trip to your local renault dealer.

Harry.

I have used Forte in my Scenic dci and also Millers in my old peugeot. Both made the engines run slightly smoother and slightly quieter and gave an extra 1mpg.

Where do you buy your diesel from?
I hear that supermarket diesel lacks the additives and detergents that Shell, BP etc add to their diesel, these additives and detergents help to keep the fuel system clean. I always buy Shell extra which is usually the same price as Tescos at our local Shell station.

The most common cause of an an intermittent 'check injectors' message is usually down to a dirty or sticking EGR valve. A failry common cause on modern diesel engines. This can have an adverse effect on fuel consumption and I have my doubts as to whether a fuel additive will have much effect and in reality you may just be puting off the inevitable job of having it cleaned properly.:)

I found that by letting the car sit and idle for a hour or so until it got really hot an dthe radiator fan cut in the fuel injection warning light went out. I thought it had cured it but it came back on a few hunded miles later. Just hope you have found a permanent cure.:)

fa66ster, did you ever use the additive or not? My scenic had this message within the first year of use. I put it in to the dealer who put it on diagnostics but couldnt find a cause, they cleared the message and it hasnt returned since (touches a piece of wood) car nearly 4 years old now.

I buy my diesel from all manner of stations! Should I be buying from the likes of BP and Shell? Does it really matter that much?
From what i hear, yes.
As i understand it supermarkets buy fuel from various sources. Branded fuel like BP, Esso, Shell etc comes from their own refineries and contains additives and detergents that keep your fuel system clean and lubricated.
I use Shell extra in my Scenic and get an extra 2mpg over Tescos and my car seems to run smoother and quieter.

Does anyone run their DCi on biodiesel??

I have run both high pressure an old fashioned diesel engines and used various suppliers of diesel over the past 20 years or more. Personally I have had no problems regarding quality neither have I ever used additives of any kind either in my fuel or engine oil.
I look at it this way if the engine is designed to run on a certain quality of fuel then it should be OK. So why bother going to any additional expense. If my experience I have came across many people who state one type of fuel is better than another but as yet I have to see any significant difference. Also remember these cars run perfectly OK on lower quality diesel which is is used in other countries of the world. If the fuel quality is OK and the engine is not running as it should be then there is a problem with the engine and we shouldn't be so quick to think changing our fuel supplier will cure the problem. Maybe I have been lucky though.:)

It seems to be heat related somehow........I drive for a while stop turn engine off, then when i re-start the engine the error message has gone, yet when I start from cold following day it has returned!

Don't want to put in Garage really as it is not causing any problems with regards to driving.

Hi Injectors tend to gum up over a period of time and do not spray the fuel into the cylinders properly. Forte and other injector cleaners remove the gum and correct the spray pattern allowing the engine to run better and cleaner.
Forte can be bought from most MOT garages because they recommend using it to correct emision problems that can fail your car during an MOT.
My ERG valve was really badly gumed up and caused the car to run really rough, it took me about 2 hours to remove and clean it but it was an instant improvment, the car ran better and the tick over dropped down and the whole car was smoother.

No its not to bad just 3 bolts but its best to take off the air valve just above the egr thats held on by four bolts and if you look inside the opening you can see the egr below and scrape out some of the oily crud (I used an allen key to hook down into it), The egr on my car was that bad that I had to clean it out with a can of carb cleaner and a can of WD40 to loosen it up so I could get it out of the engine. You have to be carefull not to damage the metal gasket on the egr as its held together by hollow rivets that the bolts pass through but you can gently tap it back and forth to loosen it once you have given it a good spray with the cleaner and wd40.
The egr clogs up over time because of the exhaust gases that pass through it back in to the engine. Diesel engines exhaust carrys a lot of oil off the diesel and this is what clogs up the egr but it does not just happen to Lagunas, all diesels suffer with it over time.

Well it seems the 'Forte' diesel cleaner didn't resolve the 'Check injection' error message after all.......I appreciate all the advice/comments given but can't understand that if there is an EGR valve issue why does the message dissapear after the engine has warmed up? Surely an EGR problem would be a problem regrdless of engine temp?

Primarily the EGR valve is a metal component housed in an alloy manifold and the alloy will expand much nore than the steel valve as it heats up. Plus the gunge that gathers in the internal ports and galleries tends to soften when warm. Either othese aspects can affect the operation of the EGR valve.
When the valve gave me problems on my Lag II it only showed when the engine was slightly warmed but not when cold or hot.:)

Hi guys,

I know this is an old post, I hope someone could reply. I was planning to use the injector cleaner (2003 1.9 dci 120hp) but I have read that using it on an old engine could cause the catalytic converter to deteriorate much faster and malfunction. Has someone experienced anything like this?

Cheers

Out of curiosity what is your mpg ? Use the advanced formula diesel cleaner then give it an Italian tune up ..might be worth doing filters after a couple hundred miles

#31 ·
Well, it's around 27 mpg. Mine is a 1.9 120hp and it should do 33 in city according to the specs. Oil and oil filter has been changed less than 1000 Kilometer, Fuel filter and air filter 35,000 kilometer. I was planning to do an early oil change and other filters in a hope that might help.

Will be happy to know what mpg others are getting.

Tnx.

I'd have shot my Scenic if I didn't get mid 40s round town.
Admittedly the 1.5 and less power but even so, yours does seem low.

Got to ask, have you a heavy right foot or is your town driving in lots of traffic ?

#37 ·
Actually no, I drive the most economical way possible, I live in a relatively small town with light traffic, I even turn off the engine at long traffic lights. Not sure why the mpg is so bad, but 1.5 is much better (Rated 43 in specs).
