Megane III Radio Won't Turn Off

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me as the local Renault Dealer can't look at my car for another 5 days.

The problem is with my 2011 Megane Dynamique TomTom Sport Tourer 1.5dCi.

As I was driving this morning I noticed I had no control of the radio, either using the stalk controls or the head unit controls. I wasn't able to even turn it off.

When I stopped I thought turning off the engine and opening the door would turn off the radio and allow me to start up again with everything working. Unfortunately not. The radio remains on even after switching off the engine, leaving the vehicle and locking it. When I return to it several minutes later the radio is still on. I don't know that much about cars but I reckon this will result in me having a flat battery fairly soon!

The radio/satnav display is showing the radio and satnav as being off (just the big clock displaying in the middle) yet the radio is still on and audible. Pressing the radio on/off knob has no effect (satnav remains off).

I thought perhaps removing the fuse would be a temporary solution, but on accessing the fusebox in the glove compartment I found the fuse that the manual says is for the radio is rendered inaccessible by the plastic fascia that obscures the top right of the fuse panel.

Has anyone any ideas on what the problem is, how to resolve it, or temporary fixes please? Is it straightforward to disconnect the radio and satnav from the battery altogether as a temporary measure (I'm sure this will result in me having to find the radio code again but I'll have to deal with that later).

Thanks.
Rob

Thanks. I took it to a non-Renault mechanic who disconnected the battery and also ran diagnostics on it. Unfortunately disconnecting didn't resolve the issue, and the diagnostics weren't reporting any errors.

Anyone want to buy a Megane 1.5dci sport tourer with dodgy radio and flat battery? :)

Sorry No, It's a diesel :d

Seriously you NEED a Renault dealer for this one IMHO

Haha, it's Radio 2 so it could be worse I suppose. Luckily the volume isn't too high.

Strangely though, I went to the car this morning expecting the battery to be flat having had the radio on all night, but it was still fine. The radio was still on, but the car started without any problems. It must have been at least 15 hours just sat on the drive paying the radio to itself.

Anyway, as soon as I started the car this morning the radio turned itself off!

I don't think I'll risk turning it on again just yet. I'll leave it booked into Renault garage on Wednesday and see what they have to say.

Well, Renault ran their diagnostics on my car this morning and informed me that the radio is knackered, the only solution is to replace it. This will cost over £400 through the official Renault channels!

I've asked them to leave it disconnected for now and I will try to find a cheaper aftermarket radio/satnav solution.

If anyone has any recommendations I'd be glad to hear them!

Cheers.

Greetings,
I have a Megane III and this morning the radio refused to utter a word either from the airwaves or from the built in sat nav !!!
Radio illuminations remained on when the car was switched off and there was a warning from the onboard diagnostics that the battery was charging (when the engine was running).
Bottom line: the radio was frozen out !!!!
Disconnected first the earth straps from the battery then the positive one making sure that all of the straps were not touching any part of the battery. Left it for 3 minutes.
Reconnected the positive first then the 2 earth straps back onto the battery.
Had a look inside the cabin and the radio illuminations had gone out: ... was looking positive.
Fired up the engine and turned on the radio fully expecting to have to put in the radio code once again; but NO! ... the radio opened up and started playing the local radio station and the TomTom was issuing commands through the sound system without any problems. Turned off the engine and everything switched off as it should.
Problem solved... happy bunny :)
Hope this may help someone who finds themselves in a similar situation.

I have just got off the phone with Renault UK Customer Services regarding this problem with the radio in my Megane.
After much waffling, Renault's position on this is that whilst many people may grumble onlne in forums about problems, Renault are "... totally unaware of any issues connected to the radios fitted in their vehicles."
However, they are constantly monitoring the situation and should the problem warrant it, then thy will investigate further with a view to taking action.
So, for all you long suffering individuals out there; do something positive... call Renault Customer Services UK AND COMPLAIN !!!!!!!
Call them directly on : 0344 335 0000 and register the fact that you are having problems ... no matter if the car is out of warranty !!
If everyone who has issues with their vehicles did this then Renault would soon be unable to claim lack of feedback and knowledge !
The ball is now firmly in your court and you have a positive course of action pen to you rather than simply moaning about the problems online.

I don't think people are using the forum to simply moan about the problem online rather than take another course of action. Simply moaning online was certainly not my intention.

If problem details are posted online and someone replies with a solution to that problem then that would seem pretty positive to me (and can often be quicker and cheaper than getting the problem resolved through official channels such as Renault themselves).

In the case of this particular thread, despite people's helpful suggestions, the problem wasn't able to be resolved by me. Therefore, I have booked my car into an official Renault dealer to have the resolve the issue for me - another positive course of action.

Calling Renault Customer Service and complaining about my out of warranty, non-safety related problem is an additional, but not alternative course of action. Forum responses and booking the car in to be fixed are much more likely to result in getting things back to normal quickly than waiting for a critical mass of complaints to hit the Customer Complaints team.

Admittedly, I've not had much experience of Renault Customer services so if they do have a history of freely resolving out of warranty, non-safety issues within a month or two then I'm the fool for paying their service centre £450+ to repair the problem for me. I would also hope that booking the car into an official service centre for repairs would also go some way to giving Renault feedback on knowledge of the issue.

RT1971 - Have you found a resolution for your problem?

The same thing has happened to me and now the car is going into Renault for a check on Thursday. Can't believe the cost of check is £59 and then another £59 to upgrade software. If this isn't the issue then the cost for a new Radio on top. This seems ridiculous.

Anything you've found that maybe helpful would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys
I have a Megan mk3 coupe tom tom 2011
When I unlock the car, the heating-cooling fan starts working immediately, and it is not on.
I turn it on the potentiometer but it does not respond.
It blows constantly.
Only when I lock the car, after 40-50 seconds does it turn off.
Has anyone had a similar problem, and how to fix it
Thank you
