Removing a blown turbo on Grand Scenic II 1.9dCi

Hi

I have 2005 Renault Grand Scenic II 1.9 dCi Privilidge.
The turbo blew some time back. I would like some assistance in removing the turbo. Is there a step be step illustration of doing this? What tools are also required.I don't even know the location of the turbo. All advice and assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Already Tried:
Got a quote (R 18 000.00) from Renault to replace the turbo unit complete with oil return pipe and gaskets. I do not have this kind of money available at this moment. I can have the turbo rebuild including all the gaskets and oil return pipe for R 5 900.00

Hello and Welcome to justanswer..
Basically, this can be done , remove and replace , without removal of the engine - but you need the vehicle either on ramps - or over a pit.. you need to work from above and below - so you need to remove the under tray ...

Its really just a case then of working through - removing the fixing bolts / pipes etc - most of which are obvious - but the fittings / bolts are not so obvious so to help you - I will give you an exploded overview of the Renault turbo you have which shows all the fixings / bolts that you need to remove... so that will help you complete the job ( obviously refitting is a reversal of removal - and you can use the same diagram to help you make sure you have fitted all back again..

I think our one is going. My wife was driving when low oil pressure poped up on the dash along with stop so she did. It cleared straight away but since then the turbo is now making a noise and there is a noticable loss of power. She has managed to get it home fine and i will have to remove the turbo extra to check it all.

Well i started the job of taking the turbo off this evening but before i started i turned the engine over and got a big clod of bluey white smoke out of the exhaust. I haven't got it full off as yet as it got dark and i was hungry but there is oil in all the pipes i have taken off so far and the inlet for the turbo looks like this.

I shall carry on tomorrow and remove it completly and see about gettting either it reconditioned or getting a replacement as i am hoping that we got it at the start of the failer.
Apart from cleaning out all the pipework and intercooler what else should i be doing.

Just replaced the turbo on our scenic 2 1.9dCi. One of the first things you need to take off is the cat, I did this from underneath and the right hand side wheel arch. Once this is out of the way access to the turbo is greatly improved. I didn't take the cat out of the car entirely just undid it from the turbo and the rest of the exhaust then just moved it to one side in the engine bay.

If I had known to do this first it would have reduced the removal time by hours.
