Renault Clio 2 - 1.5dCi No Acceleration

I'm back. on what feels like a never ending saga with my daughter's 2002 clio 1.5dci.
I've already had responses to a previous post so thanks to all.
Initially the car stopped starting. i followed the threads and changed the glow plugs (broke 2 so head off and heli coiled). changed the flywheel sensor (no difference) then mullered the top end by missing the fact there's no crankshaft woodruf key (thanks Mr Renault!).
so... recon head, new glow plugs and sensor, piston rings, big ends, belts, filters and oil. all timed up with pins.
i've just turned the key and checked the compression (all around 400-420 psi).
glow plugs back in and after a few turns it idles nicely with no dash lights on and no codes on my code reader. I have probably mixed up the injectors (cleaned and checked professionally along with the pump) but was told the ecu would probably sort that one out itself.
now i come to press the accelerator and i might as well be treading on a radish! no response from the pedal at all - just a nice tickover.
please help if you can - there's nothing worse than a daughter losing faith in her Dad!

Re: clio 1.5dci - no acceleration

If it's injector pump (rather than common rail), remove the bolts from the feed and return pipes and swap them over. I done a renault master years ago and the banjo bolts were the same physical size, but had different sized holes in, so would tick over but not rev.

Ah, ok. When you said the pump and injectors had been tested i presumed it was old school!
If it's fly by wire, then can only really be electrical. Check plugs, wires, fuses, wiggle relays etc etc
Not too clued up on this system, but there must be some sort of stepper motor on the throttle body. That should buzz or click when you first turn ignition on. Make sure butterly in throttle body isn't jammed......... that's all i can think of at the moment!

Re: clio 1.5dci - no acceleration

Accelerator pedal sensor has got 6 terminals marked
1-2-3-4 5 6 check at key on you must have a 5v
at terminals 4 & 5 terminals 1 & 2 are ground terminals 3 & 6 are return signal wires to ecu pin no's
1h2 & 1f3 Most probable causes wiring pedal sensor
ecu I would start off by checking terminals 4 & 5for the 5v feed HthRegards Mickeybo

Re: clio 1.5dci - no acceleration

Hi Mickeybo
I've just checked as you suggested.
terminals 1 & 2 prove to ground.
terminals 4 & 5 read 5v as you stated.
I'd like to check continuity of terminals 3 & 6 but try as I might I can't get the ECU cover off!

I've also tested the pedal and have increased resistance between terminals 1 & 6 when I move the pedal, and likewise with terminals 2 & 3.
I've considered swapping the pedal over with the one on my 2004 clio just to prove the pedal works but now have to sort an oil leak that's developed at the crank pulley end of the crank/sump!
any other suggestions would be greatfully received:d
thanks again

Re: clio 1.5dci - no acceleration

finally - some good news.
I've sorted the oil leak. after twice removing and resealing the sump it transpires the oil was leaking from the top end. The reconditioned head had no camshaft oil seal - that'll teach me to assume. Pour oil in - oil pours out!

as for the "dead accelerator" - I started up the engine and managed to get it to tick over after its rebuild. I let it tick over for 10 - 15 mins while the ecu must have been running it's own diagnostics. there were a few splutters and changes in running smoothness - probably while it sorted out the mixed up injectors - when it finally ticked over nicely the accelerator pedal came back into play. I took it for a 20 mile run and it felt good and showed an avereage of 62mpg on the trip computer. no leaks or drips from either of the fluid bases.

I now have a happy daughter who recognises Easter Sunday as the day her car was resurected!

thanks to all those who posted back to help - Keep up the good work - Renault ownership can be soul destroying without the back up of a good forum.:d
