Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Hi guys,

I joined up several weeks ago since I'm removing my existing HiFi system from my Renault Clio which needs to be returned, and putting it into my new Renault Mégane.

So far I've managed (with the help of a friend) to strip the install from the Clio which has now been restored to factory state so it can go back :)

The Mégane however is not the easiest car to build a new system into. I had to buy a titanium bit to drill the !*&!*& rivets of the speakers on the rear door.
I haven't been able to look at the front doors yet but I'm afraid they might be riveted as well.. Why on earth.. why.. Anyway

Whilst connecting the rear speakers we removed the old ones and cut the plugs off. We were not able to see any noticeable markings for plus or minus. As such, we have connected the speakers on best of luck. Can somebody confirm that for the rear left door:
Green + Brown = PLUS and White + Brown = NEG
and for the rear right door:
Beige + Brown = PLUS and White + Brown = NEG
I assumed it would be like this as the white & brown is the same on both doors. A confirmation would be great.

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Hi Mart81, I'm not sure which wire is neg/pos but your door speakers are rivoted in as they form part of the door seal system preventing water running into the back of your car.
I just hope that in fitting after market speakers you haven't created problems for yourself as Renault will not repair the leak for you

I don't think this is a major problem, in the Clio the speakers weren't water sealed at all (not even in factory state). There are loads of people fitting 3rd party model speakers so I'm not that concerned.

Other question: I need a stalk adapter to maintain steering controls with the Mégane.
Which one of these adapters would do the job:

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Hi,

I have Renault Megane 3 Expression with basic audio component (only AUX connector).
I would like to upgrade it to higher audio component by Renault or some regular Vendor (Sony,...). I wondering is it possibile to get new device for Renault with iPod connector and controls, or can some other 1DIN device can be placed?

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

hey i read your post and i also find these speakers awfull and got stuck with the rivets, have you had any prior problems with them after fitting after market speaker... or this mention of the water seal? thanks sam
No problems at all mate.
I used the Connects 2 speaker rings to mount my speakers and as long as you mount your speakers properly there is no problem!

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

its going to depend on how u like ya music really, if u upgrade your speakers then really u r going to need a new headunit, and if u buy decent speakers really they would benefit from being amp'd, and if u r not going to do all the work your self its not really worth doing, as u will spend a fortune

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

You can do upgrades in a variety of ways

Cheap upgrade: replace all speakers - keep head unit
Better method: replace all speakers - replace head unit
Best method: replace all speakers - replace head unit - add woofer + amps

What I have done is a combination of 2 & 3. I have replaced all speakers, swapped the head unit and added a woofer. I did not add any amp on the door-speakers as they are powerful enough for my likings.

The kits I used:
http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-Q131C/index.html
(this fits the Mégane III perfectly).
Big speakers go in the doors and the tweeters in the dash. This is a relatively cheap & easy upgrade. The biggest task is removing the door panels.

For the rear doors I used:
http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-E1302i/index.html

Same task as replacing the front door speakers although easier due to less electronics in the door.

Replacing the head unit is a nightmare in the Mégane III. I have done it nevertheless as the standard one is ****. Also I fitted the correct control boxes & converters to maintain steering wheel control.

mart how did u remove the pannel to get to the head unit i wana wire my sub up to my standard head unit its just a head ake to get the thing out ?:)
You need to pull the silvery strip above the glovebox away, then pull the plastic panel closest to the mid console away. This will reveal a number of screws that you can undo in order to get the headunit out.

I don't remember the colours, you're probably best off pulling a door panel of on the back and verify the colours. All I remember is that the coloured wire is plus and the white/striped one is negative.

For the power lead, I didn't do this myself, but the guy who did it did it near the foot area just under the glove box

Unfortunately indeed this was done by the same guy, I don't think that he has changed much, we just used an adapter.
If you're based in the South I can give you his number he's in RG21

However I do have the issue that I can't switch on the radio UNLESS the engine is running. I can't use the radio when the car's ignition is off. I suppose this is safer though as the system can't drain the battery.

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Hello,

i'm new in this forum. Now i own new megane with awfull audio. I want to replace speakers.
I purchased recomended "Pioneers" and will try to fit them.

How to remove door cards? i found 3 screws, but i still can't remove it.

Thank You!
The hidden screw is probably in the door pocket..
I forgot exactly where they are as it has been so long ago but some of them are hidden..

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Hello Mirko, I also need some help.
I have purchased a Megane 3 Coupe Dynamique from 2010.
The car is great but it has a realy bad sound system.

Could You please let me know if the speakers on the doors are welded or fixed with screws?

Can these be replaced without completly removing the door panels?

Also I've heard that it's also possible to put 165 mm speakers. If so, do i have to make modifications to make them fit in the door?

Please reply,
Thank You in advance,
Adrian

Re: Renault Mégane III Audio System Install

Just got a 2010 M3 my self with tomtom and was thinking about replacing the sound system as its crap.

Was just wondering thou how this interferes with the blue tooth for the phone? and the the display on the tomtom screen, which i suppose does not matter to much for the stereo as it will have its own, but was more thinking for phone, is there a adapter to still use the radio stalk on the steering wheel?7

Any one already done this who can what the consequences where?
