This para is not a reply to the problem you have, rather a cry for help! My problem is that my boot simply will not open. Looks like the lock is jammed solid. Having read the various people who have replaced their locks or tidied up the wiring etc, how can I do any of that when I cant even open it? I have tried to open the boot from inside, but cant get the trim off to access the hole where the book says to insert a pencil! Help someone please. Its a Megane, 2 door hatchback year 2005.Done only 40.000 miles cos I am elderly, dont do much driving except to go to supermarkets, hospitals, dentists etc.

Can you post a picture of Your boot lock from inside, will mark where you need to insert a screwdriver and move the latch
(Not come across any on the Renault where the Trim has to be removed hope YOURS is not a first )

Stop a second here

Have another look at your boot lock

See where I have marked this one in red,
Yours is deffo the same
The issue you have, because its hidden behind the panel, you can only see so much, and it looks like the opening is not there
But if you get a bit closer, you will find there is an opening, just big enough to put a leccy size/type screwdriver in, You might, if the plastic cover over the boot lock ( The part I have marked in red that piece of plastic will flick off ) remove this
You can then get to open the lock with the screwdriver

Thankyou all. I finally got my boot open. Once I got the boot open, the problem boiled down to the switch. There was a bit of moisture inside. I warmed it in the oven then sprayed the inside with WD40. Also sprayed the lock mechanism. It now works fine. I have ordered a new switch on ebay, about £8. When it arrives, I will install it but keep the old one just in case. I will keep the old switch in the car (not in the boot)!. If there is a boot problem, I will swap the switch. This can be done with the boot closed. If the boot still remains shut, that becomes a whole new ball game. Thanks everyone for your help.
