No idea but would not have thought it would be the card reader.
That is a passive unit, no moving parts AFAIK.
Microswitch to "see" when the card is put in and electronics to "read" the card security data and let the motor fire up.
What else is near the card reader ?

 

Sounds like, in no particular order.................
Heater,
Radio / CD player,
Climate Control if fitted, check below mirror for noise.

Does it do it, with card in, but nothing pressed?
Does it do it, with card in, but not started, radio off?
Does it do it, with card in, but not started, radio on?
Does it do it, with card in & started?

 

if you look at your keycard, you will see that it has a slot/hole. when the card goes in into the card reader, it moves a lever, ....This lever has a solenoid on it and it should flick back and lock your keycard in to the holder, it sounds very much like the solenoid is flicking backwards and forwards, hence your noise,, solution another laguna leycard reader

Hi clicks every 10 seconds when engine is switched on, defo coming from the reader module.
It does it withe Heater on, heater off, ac on, ac off radio on,radio off.
Doesn't click when card is in but engine is off
Soon as engine starts it clicks every 10 secs
Sort of like play pausing an old cassette tape type of mechanical click

yes plug and play,,my cardreader was playing silly beggars, took mine apart to see how it worked, clip kept saying it was not reading right, thats when I saw the solenoid inside,
Got one from local scrapyard, took a pile of relays and fuses, ( the fuses on top of the battery 8 and 10 mm socket you will need LOL) 5£ the lot, careful how you pull it off, take your ashtray out first, Dont , unless yours is damaged, take the facia part with it, they will think it is some sort of relay, and having the fuses will install this in their mind, and they will not charge as much>

 

Hello there,

my Laguna does exactly the same thing and it doesn't matter which of my two keycards are in the slot. The clicking sound is every eight seconds and does appear to be coming from the card reader area of the panel.

It is driving me crazy.
