My Problem
Front Fogs not working on a Renault Trafic 2006/7

I have just fitted new genuine front fog light kit and it came with a new stalk with the front fogs option 2 x front fog lamps and a green relay,

My question is that I have fitted and plugged the 2 front lights as the wiring was already there from Renault behind the front bumper where the fogs lights go,
Fitted the new stalk,

The relay I do not know where this goes ????

I have checked in the fuse / relay box under the header tank and it looks full with no spaces so I am lost,

There was no instructions with the kit,

I have tried the front fogs using the switch/stalk with the engine running but they do not come on so I am thinking it must need the relay fitting somewhere,

In the fuse box near the nearside part of the dash there is a fuse in there already ?

I am am a retired through ill heath an ex garage owner and I am confident in working on my van so at least I am not a complete novice so if anyone can advise me how to get these on I will be very pleased for your help,

Hi & welcome to the Forum.

In the manual diagram there is a fuse attached to the battery 175A (2.0 only) & a red wire which goes to the engine fuse box 2 x 60A. (F2D & F2A)
The Relay in the engine fuse box is named - K4

When you turn the fogs on by the stalk do you get a warning light on the dash?

Will need engine size petrol, diesel engine, code if possible as there are fuses in the interior fusebox also that could well not be fitted,

No No No - the fuses are in the fuse box behind the cup holder passenger side & the relays are under the dash on the passenger side - look for pink & yellow relays there are a few blank spaces :d let us know how you get on as i need some fogs on mine.

Also see post #8 & check the fuses are fitted.
Cheers Ralph

On models with a lighting UCH the UCH is similar to a mini computer so when you operate a switch it doesn't connect directly but instructs the UCH to take the necessary action usually sending a current to a relay or such. As far as I know it can only be altered by a Renault compatible code reader.

I am not certain about all models but I do know the later Clios and Lagunas work on that principle.

Sorry to jump in so late but the best thing to do with front fog lights, along with those 4king rear blinders, is to bin them. Rears may have a place in deep fog on a motorway but yer average commuter switches them on in mist, in traffic - big help. Fronts are generally left on all the time either because numnuts forgets they're on or for "look at me" effect. As for illumination, they're as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Now, a pair of Super Oscars, they'll do the job!

"You dont drive much around country lanes then ,,"

I do - I live in a small village. I write from personal experience of driving in towns and at commuting time. I think the lack of consideration in the use of these lights is just another symptom of the me me me society which has developed over the past few years.

I've had front fogs on four Citroens, two Alfas and my current RX4; none of them were worth a toss.

Good morning, well I got out this morning and looked for the bank of relays under the dash on the pass side and there was only one row of relays on my van, On that row there was only one space left at the bottom so seeing my van has a lot of spec already fitted I put the relay into that space and hey presto they are working, I switched on the headlamps and then the front fogs and the dashlight came on so I checked the fogs outside and they are on, So all in all they were quite simple to fit as the wires were there to attach to the fogs, the stalk switch was a doddle to fit and now the relay is a doddle now I know where it is, Many thanks to you and forums like this to help people like me find and fix things it's great and better than having to pay a garage to sort this out, Best regards to all that have replied to my quest for help, Nev pics attached

Forgot to say the the empty space for the relay was the very bottom one as you look at the picture and that is where I put a green relay that I got with the kit , tnx

Got the fogs sorted myself without the need of a dealerships with their high charges etc I am an ex garage proprietor and I know what them people charge first hand, I always thought D**k Turpin wore a mask ?

I am sorry to see that you have a huge chip on your shoulder regarding fog lights,
I agree that irresponsible drivers that leave them on or use them willy nilly causes a problems for other road users BUT I am not one of those type of drivers so you cannot say that all of drivers are the same, I am an ex Professional HGV driver retired and believe me I have seen them all but I aim to use them correctly and within the law,
