Just fitted new brake pads and discs to the rear of a 54 Scenic grand, now the problems have started all over again.

A 'STOP' warning & 'Brake fault' messages come up on the display. A college with a machine tried to clear the codes but with no luck. Stripped both sides down again today and checked I hadn't done anything to the sensor and everything was in place. I gave the area a wipe to clean off the crap.

All this was to no avail as the warning signs are still there, the brakes work fine and there's no skidding so I'm guessing the ABS is working too.

Any ideas

hi
no they dont. new short cables are about £35 or so.
its probably just a bad electrical connection or the sensor not seated right.

have you lost the speedo reading ???
the NearSide one is dualled with the speedo, the Offside isnt.

just pull the wheel off and refit the sensor on the hub and check the cable path across the lower arm to the wheel arch, and under the plastic cover where the main connector is located.

both front cables are the same part number.

Have you had previous trouble with the ABS warning light?

As far as I'm concerned if the ABS warning light is staying on the ABS system isn't working can you say for sure that the car doesn't skid and that the ABS system is working?

I found the best way to test the ABS was to find either a gravel surface or a loose surface like waste ground, you need to get up to about 30 mph then if you brake hard you will feel the brake pedal pulse as the ABS works, different cars give different feelings through the peddle.

Did the warning light come on as soon as the new discs were fitted or a day or so after?

Cheers.

Well got rid of the ABS light and then a brake warning light came up and couldn't find a problem so decided to check the brake system and something made me look at the brake fluid in the dark.

Seams that due to checking the level in the day time I must have gotten a shadow and mis-read the level. filled it up and everything is working (for now)

thanks for all the help and ideas, now to sell it before something else goes wrong :(
