It wont be manually adjusted. Your car is a 2006 model so should be under warranty? Your problem could be idle valve related, and air leak problem, ecu problem etc

My boyfriend was going to try fixing it himself before going the garage route.......any point replacing the idle valve? If so where can that be found?

But why go out and buy an idle valve on the offchance that it could fix it when the dealer will repair it for free?

It could be any one of a number of things, and the first thing the dealer will do is try to read any fault codes to narrow it down. You're wasting your time and potentially risking invalidating the warranty if you tinker with it yourself, so leave the dealer to sort it out

its a second hand car, only have it a few weeks - so its not under warranty im guessing. Will drop it in to a Renault dealership anyway now if it could be something as tricky as the ECU. Thanks a mill,

I expect the dealer would look at you strangely if you asked for it to be fixed under warranty though

 

You could disconnect the battery for an hour and so (keep the radio code handy) and then see if that helps reset it.

 

find the throttle body; usualy thayr on the left side of the motor (looking forward); someone can press the throttle pedal and u ll see it moving - thats the throttle body; unscrew the torx steam: ) bolt to the desired idle speed; 1000 rpms for idle speed is too high; 750-800/850 is ok

 

I don't think you want to be messing with any screws. The idle is most likely controlled by the ECU, so apart froma reset (i.e. battery diconnecting) you should ideally be finding whats caused the car to idle high all of a sudden. Could be a faulty idle valve though, or even an airleak
