I've got a 2003 Megane 1.5DCi (80 or 86bhp - I can't remember!). It's in great condition, and I recently bought a new car so it's time to sell the Megane. Unfortunately, as soon as I decided to sell it, the engine has started making a rattling noise.
I've had a look under the bonnet, and the noise seems to be coming from the front left next to the radiator. I guess the part in question is the alternator (please correct me if I'm wrong); and there seems to be small shards of metal and metal dust surrounding it. Is this signs of the alternator pulley breaking apart?

Close up:
Could anyone confirm what the problem is, and if a replacement is going to be expensive (I guess it's not possible to sell it as it is?). Many thanks.
