Ive been offered a 1993 Clio Campus, 1.2.

It goes and everything functions fine, But I have been told it has an oil leak.

Its on sale to me for £100

Im pretty much OK with mechanics - having worked on my last 2 previous cars (A peugeot 106, and a Megane), and my last 3 motorbikes (A moped! a Honda NSR125 and a Honda VFR400) as well as other peoples cars and bikes.

Im tooled up, and could manage the majority of things (I hope)

But.....

The oil leak - I've not come across one of these so far! (Lucky I know) Would this be an easy fix once ive found where it leaking from - Does the clio have a preferred leaking spot!?! ie, is this a known problem of a car this age?

Im temped - the price is brilliant - but the oil leak is reflected in the price.

Should I go for this? Or leave well alone?

How much is this likely to cost me to put right?

Any Advice would be brilliant, especially on previous experiences with oil leaks!

Cheers

Oil leaks from a number of places,so it's a job to say how big a job or how expensive it's going to be.

The favorite place for leaks on most Renaults is the oil filter coming loose, which is obviously a very easy fix.

Rocker cover gaskets, oil seals in a number of places, sump gaskets and sump plugs,or even head gaskets are all possible leaking spots, too.

Also, the gearbox driveshaft seals and gaiters can leak, which can if left, damage the gearbox internals.

You really do need to look at it in more detail before making a decision, but at £100,if the worst came to the worst, you could break the car for spares and make money on it.:)
