Hello all,

my aunty currently drives an S reg Peugeot 306 1.4 petrol with air con which does not work but the heater fan has stopped working to clear the front window, fan does not operate at all. I will check fuses tomorrow but if its not the fuse anyone any idea's what else it could be. I am thinking possibly a rearstat has failed like in Renault scenics if it uses a similar system.

If the rheostat goes then the fan won't work at all so if the fuses are OK and the motor tests Ok the rheostat is the prime suspect. The rheostat is in the outside air trunking going down to the motor,to access it open the bonnet, take the plastic scuttle panel trims away (you may need to remove the wiper arms,I haven't changed one in a very long time so you'll have to forgive the holes in my memory:eek:) and on the nearside there is an air intake, remove that and you should be able to look down into the fan and see the rheostat. You twist it through 90 degrees and it should come out,you will see an obvious problem with the wires in the unit usually, they tend to blow apart.:d

If you fit a new rheostat, make sure you have the ignition off as the fan will start instantly even if the control is set to off,it will only work at a low speed but will still make a nice job of taking the skin off your fingers!.

With aircon,I hope it's not a leaking pipe running down the side/back of the engine, they are a complete #### to fit......if your Aunt ever says to you that she wants the aircon to work and you have it regassed and either the high or low pressure pipes leak run away and hide.

Hope that helps.:)

EDIT.Actually, thinking about we broke a 306 at work not so long ago and we have the complete dash out of it so if I remember I'll take some photos to show you where everything is and I'll also check the rheostat in it and see if it any good.If I don't get back to you before the weekend give me a shout.....;)
