Hello
I own a 2.5 dci 140 Renault trafic quickshift box

Today I started the van up and notice the preheat warning light stayed on after starting it up

The van would not go into automatic mode I could select manual mode ajnd drive but no automatic mode

Panic set in thinking the robotic unit was at fault with a big repair bill for me

Took the van to my mechanic he plugged in his laptop and discovered the clutch position was wrong he tried to reset it with his laptop but failed

He then bleed the clutch system via the laptop, and ha presto reset the clutch position

Turns out there was air in the system

Just thought I would share this in case anyone else has the same problem

Thanks

Hello
Looks like I spoke too soon

Started the van up today and no automatic selection again

Back to the garage bleed system and all ok

Drove to Sainsbury to do some shopping and started up the van no automatic selection again

I think I have a leak ? or pressure loss somewhere

will update when I find out more

Is there a pressure test that can be done on the robotic unit ?

Thanks

Hi your problem is you need to change the glow plugs. At least one if knackered. When the glow plugs go down on your Year manual gearbox mode is limp mode.

Hello

Does anyone know where I can find clutch fluid reservoir on my van ?

Am I right in thinking the hydraulic fluid in the robotic unit is used to engage the gears only and there is separate clutch fluid reservoir somewhere as when he bleed the clutch it does work albeit not for long

My mechanic is of the opinion the robotic unit needs replacing or the slave cylinder both jobs are very expensive so I would like to try and have a go myself

Strange how I can still drive the van in manual mode

Thanks

Thanks for the picture

I found an older post on here with the same fault as mine
The fault was traced to semi auto gearbox in default mode due to faulty glow plugs

So I think I need to touch my toes and see a Renault garage for a scan

I have noticed my snow mode has stop working as well

Also the central locking thinks a door is open as I get the bleep after locking the doors and the car door symbol stays on when driving
Thanks

Hello
There was a unknown fault from my mechanic and clutch position was wrong ? Which he reset

Fixed the open door symbol staying on the dashboard panel the rubber bung was missing from the rear door not making contact
And the snow mode only works with auto so that explains why that don't work

I'm struggling with things to check been underneath can't see any thing obvious no signs of leaking fluid

I've pulled off most plugs checked for water

I used to have an old tranny spanners and a hammer fixed most things

Now it's laptops which is beyond me

Thanks

Hello

Just thought I would update the thread

Van now works

Culprit = two faulty glow plugs

Amazing how two faulty glow plugs can cause me so much pain lol

Took van back to mechanic
On his laptop fault code def190 clutch position fault
However this time he also had faulty heater plug which did not show up all the time
Intermittently

He believes the faulty glow plug caused the clutch position fault preventing the use of automatic

As when he cleared the heater plug fault it fixed the clutch position fault

I very nearly went for a clutch replacement yesterday

Lucky for me I read on the net that someone had the same problem
as me and was due to faulty plugs

So make sure you check your glow plugs first if you have a similar problems before your told you need a robotic unit or new clutch

A big thanks to all those on this site for your help

I have a Grand Modus since November 2009 it has close to 250,000 KMS with a QS5 gearbox. Renault dealers don't want to know so I told my village garage about it not working, they quickly identified the Clutch gear change motor and I got a new motor from SEQUE parts in Berlin for €217.00, they delivered it via DHL Express in 24 hours. The village garage then decided they better change the normal clutch but it took Renault 10 days to come up with a clutch despite the fact that it is a common Renault 1.5 Diesel manual clutch. Anyway once it was all fitted it worked on the ramp but not on the ground. It seems the gear change pump needs to pressurise the system and after some time over two days they worked out how to do that and now I have a 15 year old Renault Grand Modus that is as good as new. If it isn't working once you actually get involved it is actually quite simple to fix. Hope this helps folks
