Can anyone confirm which type of OBD connector is shown in the pictures (ie is it OBD1 or OBD2, etc)? Thanks

The Diagnostic Socket is located between the two front seats in the example shown a Sliding Centre console is fitted .

On vehicles not fitted with the sliding centre console the socket is usually located under a mat/cover in the location shown.

so this is my diagnostic socket ? ok what diagnostic tool can i buy cheapish so i don't after keep running to Renault and them charging me £60 for the codes ? links please :)

Just a quick note - in the Scenic version without the main movable console (I have 2 scenics, one with it and one without it) the OBD socket is in the same location, you have to lift the rag and it's there - I had to remove the whole stationary console just to find out it's there under the carpet.

OBD2, though you probably figured it out..

Nowadays you don't have to buy a specific tool anymore - you can buy any OBD to bluetooth and use one of the many android apps (Torque, DashCommander) to do everything you need, or OBD to USB and use a laptop.
I bought mine from aliexpress, spent 10$ and bought 2 pieces, one bluetooth and one usb (the windows apps for obd are FAR better than the android apps in my taste).

Correction no longer needed ;)
Thanks hondo!!

Sorry NO, that's not quite right.
Torque & all the others ONLY do OBD or OBD2 which is ONLY for engine related faults.
Anything body wise, Heating, Alarm, Immobiliser, ABS, EPB, Airbag, etc Then you need the full blown, big boys toys, expensive diagnostic stuff. Can Clip & DDt2000 being the two official Renault Types.

I've got an Autel MS509 and it won't connect in a Scenic II, 2004, diesel. Are they not compatible??

Does your machine light/power up when connected?

Mine lights up yeah. Goes through the motions of trying to connect with various protocols and eventually gives up with a connection error.

Not sure how your machine works,.
Can only go on my old maxiscan
Does yours ask you for different makes, then a model, or does it just connect and diagnose..
Does your scanner, have batteries in it,, if so take the batteries out and try to connect, just to verify you have power at your OBD port
Have you tried your scanner on another car?
If autel say it will connect then, check on their website!!!
