Hi there im new to this forum.
I have recently had my slave cylinder replaced on my 55 reg renault trafic 1.9 dci 6 speed and the gearbox has been refilled with engine oil, i am told this is fine but i am not so sure??
the gearbox now seems to be making a grinding noise wich it was not before the box came off. what sort of damage could this be doing? what grade gearbox oil should be in there and how much? many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

No,engine oil is not the correct oil for the PK6 gearbox.

You need to have the box flushed and then refilled with 2.4 litres of Total Transmission BV (or another equivalent). These boxes are temperamental at the best of times without being filled with the wrong oil,I'd get it sorted asap.

You will need a large can of brake cleaner.

Warm up the gearbox with a short test drive, then place a drain try under gearbox and remove the level plug and then the drain plug.Allow the oil to drain for as long as you can, then spray the brake cleaner in through the level hole. This won't get rid of all of the old oil but it will get as much as is possible without completely stripping the box.Ideally you need a can with a long nozzle on it,move this around the level hole to get as much of the old oil out as you can, obviously don't let the nozzle fall out and into the gearbox.Once the liquid coming out of the drain plug is clean/clear then you're done.Any brake cleaner left in the box will evaporate away in a short time.

Refit the drain plug (with a new washer) and then put in the 2.4 litres of Transmission BV or equivalent.Refit the level plug and away you go.

On my trafic I have always used Tranself NFP 75w/80, GL4+. And always put in 2.5 litres, I change the oil every 25,000/2.5 years. Still working great and it's done 154,000 now.
What ever oil you use make sure its 75w/80 and is GL4+.
