Clio rear brake cylinder bolts

Hi Guys.

The wife has a 2001 (July) Clio II that has a leaking rear brake cylinder which I foolishly offered to change for her.
The problem I'm having is removing the two bolts that hold the cylinder to the back plate, my 10mm spanners and sockets are too big to loosen the bolts and 9mm are too small to fit them.
Could our French friends have used 3/8" headed bolts rather than metric ? or is it that they were originally 10mm heads that have corroded making them too small now for a 10mm spanner ?
any tips for removing them would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, there are loads of different tools to get round problem nuts & bolts - i found these are great for getting rounded bolts undone.

Shop around as this is just an example!

Pop down to Halfords or a motor factors to see if they have anything like this, as you only need a 10mm it's not worth shelling out for a complete set.

Good luck

It's worth trying a 3/8 socket or ring spanner. Should be 9.5 approx across the flats so could be a closer fit.

Does the head look damaged/rusty ??

Thinking on it, proper brake flare spanners are 9 and 11 mm so those are most likely sizes.
Will your 9mm tap on to the heads...rust will make em slightly bigger.

Guys,

Finally got the cylinder off using a cold chisel rather than a spanner !!
Id already bought the replacement cylinder so looked the better option to change it rather than the seals.
my only issue now is changing the brake pipe, it runs to the passenger side of the car before meeting the flexible, looks like some kind of clip but I haven't managed to find an easy way to use the search option on here yet so cant be sure.

Any tips on using the search facility would be very much appreciated.
