Hi all,

I bought myself some upgrade headlight bulbs for my Laguna 3 with the intention of swapping dipped, main and fog. When I went to actually try and do it I couldn't get anywhere near them!! Now I like to think that I know a thing or 2 about cars but I am defeated as to how to swap the bulbs! Does anyone have any pointers before I pay silly money to get a dealer to do it?!

Thanks,

Steve

On some models (it might just be the automatics) the power steering reservoir is right behind the right hand headlight. If that's the case, then it would appear that you're snookered from the outset. If not, then the right hand lamp is pretty easy to get at.

The left hand one is obscured by the battery tray. You may find that, on removing the battery cover, there's a cut-out corner in the battery tray that can be lifted out. It's still tight, but you can improve access slightly by taking the top two screws out of the headlight. It gives an extra 5mm or so of wiggle room, and that can make all of the difference.

If there's no cut out in the battery tray, then the battery and tray have to come out. Make sure you have the security code for the radio, and leave the side lights turned on, just in case the car has the same electrical quirks as the old Lag II.

This is based on swapping the day running lights to LEDs on a 2010 Laguna with Xenon headlamps. Your mileage may vary.

Ok so I managed to swap dipped and main over the weekend! Nice tip on the removable corner of the battery tray, thank you!
In an ideal world you need hands the size of a 10 year old...if you don't, like me, you will cut your hands to shreds!!
On the near side remove the plastic battery cover then pull out the removable corner of the battery tray. You then have access the the headlight unit. To change dipped beam remove the plastic cover on the back of the headlight unit, remove the plug from the bulb then undo the metal clip. Bulb will just then pull out (H7). Putting new bulb in just reverse the above instructions. On the off side the process is the same but there is less room to do it! You can unclip the top part of the screenwash reservoir and likewise you can slide of the top part of the power steering reservoir. With these out of the way you can then gain access to the back of the headlight unit.
For Main beam (H7) -
On the near side you need to remove the plastic cover from the back of the lamp. Do not remove the plug yet! To release the bulb push on the plug and the whole bulb unclips (it's like a spring loaded mechanism). Pull the plug off the bulb. To put in the new bulb just reverse the process. It is, however, very difficult to put the plug on the bulb before trying to locate it back into position as there is very little room! Repeat the exercise for the off side BUT it's this side that you will start taking lumps out of your hands as it's VERY tight....I had blood pouring down my hands trying to do this one!!
I will report back when I have done the fog lights of how to do it.
The purpose of this exercise is that, as my car doesn't have Bi-Xenon headlights I wanted to upgrade my normal bulbs with the new Ring XenonMax bulbs that promise to be up to 100% brighter while utilising the standard wattage thus still being 100% legal for road use. I didn't want to go as far as an HID upgrade as I couldn't be bothered with the whole grey area of legality etc.
First impressions are good with light output being a crisp white but without the blinding glare of HID kits.
I fitted some to the wifes Megane Coupe too as she had complained that she wanted something brighter and she too has commented on how much better they are to the standard bulbs.

Anyway, I hope this might help someone else who may wish to change their own bulbs in future.....forewarned is forearmed!!

Cheers,

Steve

I changed my N/S headlight bulb in a car park, in the dark, a couple of months ago on the white Lag when I realised one had blown as I was driving... It took a couple of minutes. I guess I wouldn't be doing that with a modern Renault!

Well, at least they've moved on from needing to take the bumper off! :d

Ok, done the fogs!!
Just under the front bumper there is a kind of undertray for which I removed the bolts. This allows for a little play in the bumper which is useful when getting the bulbs in. At each corner there is a plastic flap which goes back towards each wheelarch. There are 2 screws that hold this in place. Undo both screws. The plastic is very flexible so push it up hard and this will allow you access to the back of the bulbs. Unclip the connector, twist the bulb (H11) then remove. Refitting is just a reverse of this! These were the easiest ones by far!!:d

This headlamp bulb change is very interesting to me since I have just purchased one of the last Lag3's (2012) dCi 175 Init a few days ago. I don't know what bulbs I have or whether I should improve them by replacing, perhaps someone could advise. With a lot of exploring I noted that this car doesn't have Day Running Lights so, I've ordered some. Just wondered whether there's the circuit and relay already located somewhere. Any ideas ? I've fitted these things before so I can manage the fitting and wiring. Must say what a gorgeous car, bought it from Marshalls in Cambridge (lovely people) 5 days ago, drove 105 miles home and been too poorly to go out in it since. The heat has knocked me about !

Best regards to all Derek Miles.

Hello Andrew once again,

I've now completed my installation with everything working well but, I have photos to display to assist you and I've asked for some assistance with loading them.
I will get it sorted as soon as I get the required help.

It took me a day to experiment with the fitting but, if I had to do it again it would take me about an hour ?

Best regards Derek Miles.

Been fitting DRL's and on the right side, caught my hand on a loom behind the headlamp the middle bulb got disturbed and the bulb dropped out....~@##====$%*.

Many hours later with skin needing much re-grafting ! I got it back in. Not by any usual method. After finding round cover on the lower tray and disconnecting the bulb from the connector,I devised a method of re-fitting the bulb. I'm sure this will help others. Using a selected piece of rubber hose' I cracked it !

Someone will have to tell me how to get these photos shown. I've got them lodged in my "Photo File". Win 3.Pro. IE 11

Kindest regards Derek Miles

It's a heck of a job and perhaps impossible. Do some research on taking the headlamps out by removing the bumper. I have an idea that this has been covered before, the bumper removal that is.
If you take out the two top securing screws of either unit, you'll find that it moves quite freely but don't snatch it upwards, it feels as though the bottom securing is by clips...but who knows.

Hi Guys, I really like my Renault Laguna 3 Initiale, its mint condition, and has all the specification and power I need, however, my problem is that the two full beam headlights above the sidelights are not coming on, try as hard as I can I cannot remove either bulb, presuming its the bulbs, the dipped beam hdi lights are great, do I have a blown fuse or relay, I am normally okay with this sort thing but stuck with my Laguna , do you think I should remove the bumper, I don't want to damage or scrape it, or am I best just to take it to a Renault specialist or dealer, I hope to fit dlr lights into grill also but obviously I need to connect wiring to headlights first also. Are there any garages that will fit them? Thanks for any replys.
