The service interval is programmed into the dash and ECU so there is no way of altering it without using Renaults diagnostic kit. The interval is set at the factory depending on which country the car is to used in. I do know shorter intervals are set for countries with adverse climate such as high or low temperatures of dusty conditions.

 

hi I am in south Africa and mine is same as yours why would you want to change it.is it petrol or diesel do use full synthetic oil? If you want to just reset at ten and reset at fifteen but rand wise cent foolish cheers

 

Its a petrol, 1.2 turbo. Brand new under service plan. I can take it in for the service but they'll probably just tell me they wont do a service until 15000km.

 

Mine ,bought new in 2011:
Service interval came at 20k km or 1 year..actually 11 months.
Theoretically,it should have been 30k km and one year,but they told me it was set low.

Anyway,since its new, you want to get a service done inside 12 months for warranty purposes,whatever mileage is up on it, or at least a renault health check.


Get renault to set the mileage/kilometerage interval to 15k if you arent going to exceed that in a year.

On mine the warranty sheet has provisos..cut the service mileage in half if you live in a hot dusty country n so on.

So in first year ..or at least after the first year service get them to set it at 15k km or 1 year,whatever comes soonest ,so that you dont have annoying lights on dash.

We should perform an oil change every 10000km. Its better for engine, and save money for future engine renovation. Engine can last much longer it you change oil every 10000km (with oil filter off course and air filter too)
Do NOT belive to what producent says. They want to earn money so it's better for them to sell another car or at least new engine. Long life oils - that's bulls#it too.
REMEMBER - Every 10000kms.

See that big heavy Artic, they dont just change the oil, they test it first, .
If ok they leave it be.

But noone test the engine too precise, look up for grey residue in bottom of pan, look for black or dark brown walls under valves cover or on the walls inside engine.
Noone dismantle oil filter to see what is inside - metal chips ect.
That's why ,not only me, but many people with knowledge don't advise to change oil so rare.

You are making rather specific allegations based on obviously very little experience .................. I can direct you to an oil-specific forum where literally 100s of very well-educated in tribology members and also oil production/testing, would like to take you to task for your statements because there are tons of evidence oil can last the advertised distances IF THE ENGINE IS PROPERLY MAINTAINED TO START WITH.

I for one cut and inspect every filter I remove .............. so - so much for your "fact" .................... if you want to see manic oil-related discussions with TONS of UOA (used oil analysis sheets) and pages of oil filter pictures, I can help you out with facts if you want to start making sense.

The oil producers would be taken to court if their long life oil did not do as it says on the tin

 

I am going to stay with my opinion that oil should change every 10000 km.(personal car) And I'm sure that my engine will last longer than yours if you would change it every 15000 km or more.

 

Mines just gone past 155.000 miles

Hate to say it Robertsz but you are a little out of date.
Most modern Renaults and many other modern cars now call for 18000 mile service, that's just under 29000Km
The 15000km hasn't been specified for years (about 9K miles) but is about where I change my oils.
Partly because it is part of my summer service and that's about my annual mileage, partly because I am of an age where cars not only scheduled oil changes every 5-6K miles (8K-9K Km) but needed them.

I haven't too much issue with modern fully synthetic oils and their long life, they simply do not break down as badly as conventional mineral oils. Couple that with less carbon build up in engines, less everything generally, I'm not going to panic if I overshoot to 10K (miles) or more.
Still can't get to grips with the little filters that modern engines have, they just seem too little. But I don't see sludge when I drain my sump nor within filters.

I do believe that engines benefit from more frequent oil changes then schedules require but end of the day, there are millions of engines out there that only ever see scheduled servicing and many seem to survive.

 

Newer engines are made of s#it and producers say - oil change every 30000km... what bad can happend? This is how they will earn money by servicing cars, changing engines, selling new cars.
All world is about money now. You can not use your brand new car for 30 - 40 years, be couse you are affraid that it will not last. Most new small engines don't last 200000km.
