Hi Guys,

Does anyone know any tutorial on how to install Steering wheel adapter (Clio III)? I got aftermarket radio, but guy in audio store told me that I would have to remove dashboard to connect all 3 connectors to the adapter. So I just want to know if anyone replaced that part and have some advice how to do it.

Thanks in advance.

I have just fitted an aftermarket stereo to my Grand Modus and have got all the steering wheel controls to work, I bought a cable that turns ISO ( new head unit) into Renault and prvides a black box that speaks with the CAN BUS and makes it all work, it was relatively simple

Connectors Manufacturer I used

then you just need a Headunit connection lead to make the steering wheel controls work, find the main loom for your car ( write down the part number) then click on it and bottom left is the head unti leads, find yours and again write down the part number then search for the cheapest versions of them on the internet, I got my kit a lot cheaper than byuing direct

Thank you very much on your quick and detailed answer. I really appreciate it.

I found one which I think suites my car and that would be CTSRN007.2

Also, I can see where smallest port will be connected, I can see where main port will be connected but on the picture there is red port which I can't find in my car. I'll upload couple pictures just so you or anyone else could understand little bit more my situation :)

First 3 pictures are from my car, those are the only ports I see (no red port here). On last picture you can see wiring I got with my Kenwood stereo. There's "Steering wheel remote input" wire, mute wire and one more wire. Do I have to connect those wires somewhere or?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

P.S. Here's the picture of that mysterious red port:

if you open the install instructions pdf file that is just underneath the small picture of the product, the mysterious red port, is actually for the big plug you are holding in picture 1, the 3 spare wires on the connects 2 main kit
1. pink wire - speed pulse, if your system will allow the radio to increase volume with increased speed
2. green wire - is for parking brake, whatever that does I don’t know unless the Clio does something funky with the radio when the parking brake is applied
3. purple wire - is reverse sensor again whatever that does I don’t know unless the Clio does something funky with the radio when the parking brake is applied

It all depends on which Kenwood head unit you need from the list either the CTKENWOODLEAD or CTKENWODDLEAD2, you will need to have a look at the back of your new stereo to determine which one you need, the steering wheel remote input on your stereo harness needs to be connected to the single wire from the head lead in version 2 or if you have a connecter for version 1 you can use that connector OR the lead. then you can wire the other leads as you see fit, if you want the stereo to shut up if you are reversing connect the reversing sensor to the mute wire

Always always always connect the system up from the stereo backwards to the car, if the steering wheel remote is not connected before power is applied it will pick a dead signal (no steering wheel remote signal) and your steering wheel remote will not function, so I suggest the following: -

1. Purchase the Harness and correct Head Unit Lead
2. Connect the steering wheel remote cable to the head Unit Lead and then connect the head unit lead to the black box
3. Connect any other wiring you deem necessary from the flying leads you have remaining
4. Connect the stereo harness to the stereo, then connect everything to the car power and test before fully fitting to the car

for the love of all things green and bushy, don’t strip the wires, twist them round and bind them in insulation tape, it will work for about 6 months then the tape will break down and you will start to get random faults, use proper connectors. Get a crimping tool and crimps

Hope that helps :grin2::grin2:

2=If a DVD system was installed, then, dvd will work when parking brake applied ,,
Once parking brake released then screen showing dvd would go off = green wire.
Legally required to work, in any system can play a dvd, as not allowed to be playing ,, whilst driving ( insurance is void, if company finds out )

3 = reverse , this can be fitted to a reversing camera, (via a relay, if can bus system fitted on the car, ) this will be powered when in reverse, as some cars can show/use the camera via the screen

Some cars can be fitted with DVD/NAV systems combined..
So the wiring is for all ICE systems, ..
(The screen can come out, and lift up automatically ... so, though a small area, can be fitted)

Single din satnav/dvd players,,

You still have to connect car harness to them, so if not fitted,, then you would have to fit wires to the car....
What about reverse camera, as some nav systems will take an aux/video cable, so you would have to still have the wiring in place.. But still need something to power the camera,
The wire for the hand brake light, not all cars have them ( older cars), so the wire from the iso socket would need tracing down to the handbrake switch, .

Whats it say on the label, or is that part of original loom..
Electric retractable aerial maybe ,, ( old systems had an aerial on the wing, that went up and down , )

its the Kenwood remote steering wheel control cable, it fits into the other side of the Black Connects2 box and is attached to the light blue steering wheel remote cable from your new cars stereo loom, this MUST be connected before the stereo is connected to the cars power supply or your steering wheel remote controls will not work , the badly drawn blue arrow shows you on the image :wink2:

If you have connected the stereo to the cars power supply without connecting the steering wheel remote cable first, all is not lost, all you have to do is to disconnect completely the stereo and Connects 2 loom from the cars power supply, connect that purple wire to the light blue wire and go for a cup of tea, you have to wait for all the little electrons running around that black connect2 box to have dissipated before connecting back up to the cars supply, it will then pick up the steering wheel controls command system and then they will work
