Trafic 1.9Dci Hazard Lights won't turn off! **Fixed**

Hello,

I have a problem where the hazard lights stay on continuously whether the van is started up or not, basically whenever the battery is connected, locked or unlocked. I have a 2002 52 Plate Renault Trafic 1.9 DCI SL27 100

My van was running fine until we had a cold spell and the battery died. I removed and charged the battery up and the van starts and drives as normal again however the hazard lights came on and won't go off.

I have bought and fitted a new hazard switch with no luck. I don't think it is an alarm problem as I'm still able to unlock the doors and drive away. Once the engine has started the immobiliser light stops flashing too. The headlights all work as they should as does the key when locking and unlocking. Oh and also when the hazards flash, the arrows flash on the dashboard too and it makes the clicking sound you get when you indicate which I assume is normal for hazard lights too.

Having read about the UCH online I removed it and had a look, there doesn't seem to be any water damage that I can see but I have an untrained eye! I cleaned it up from dirt and still have the same problem.

For what its worth, when I remove the UCH, the Hazard lights stop flashing and I'm unable to lock and unlock using the button on the key, nor does the van start.

My next point of call is going to be to send it off to be tested and repaired at BBA Reman (Quoted about £200) which I've seen recommended here. I just wondered if anyone had any other ideas or would be confident in saying it is likely a UCH fault, or could even recommend someone close to Peterborough to repair it?

Thank you so much! Happy Easter! :smile2:

Find & Disconnect The alarm. On the N/S Chassis Leg. Sadly well buried. Will not stop it Running.
If that stops it, Take apart & dry out.

Ok, so in the end I had a friend look at it. We narrowed it down to the UCH. Sprayed contact cleaner on the pins and on the plug going to the UCH. It now only flashes once every few minutes or so and when the hazard light is 'on' as in pressed in, the lights are off but when it is in the off position as in popped out they turn on!

So I'm guessing something is back to front there! Looks as though I'll have to send it off to BBAReman for £200 fix as Renault want £75 just for an inspection fee!

Have you taken all the bulbs out, for the indicators ..

before you send it off, take the bulbs out one at a time,, with your hazards in the off position,,, see if one side is giving a live feed back.. if yes,,, check your indicator switch, you will need to remove 3 bulbs on the left, then the 3 on the right, ..

Thanks, checked with a friend with no luck! Stumped up the cash for repair in the end, should get the box back this week.
