Hi, just over the last wee while i have noticed that some espace members have been complaining of the lack of jacking points on the espace well on my 2002 espace III phase III i have took some pics to help they are there but hard to see.

If you look on the sills of the car at the front and rear you will see small arrows where you would jack the car when changing a wheel when you have a flat well thats fine but if you are looking for somewhere to use axle stands or even a trolley jack if you look about another 2 inches beyond this in and under the floor pan on the front and rear there is metel jacking points, they are just hard to see and if you use a trolley jack or axle stands put a bit of wood between where iam showing you in the pic's between the axle stands or trolley jack so its not metel to metel its metel to wood and wood to metel to prevent slipping, i hope this make sence.

I have gave you some pic's to help you find them and i have marked it with a yellow arrow to guide you there,i hope it helps cheers Donald.

Pic No 1 is the rear.

Pic No 2 is the front.

Re: Where should I put axle stands on a 1999 renault grand espace?

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

If you can until tomorrow I'll go out to my car and take some pics of where to jack the car up and put axle stands to.If the weathers good I'll whip a wheel off and show you how to remove/refit a caliper too,I'm pretty sure mine will have the same arrangement on the rear brakes.

Re: Where should I put axle stands on a 1999 renault grand espace?

I've just been out and taken some pics, sorry for the delay buy it's been a bit of a cr4p day.

Anyway,it is a bit awkward on the rear of the Espace to jack up the car and put an axle stand somewhere solid, ideally you need a trolley jack with a decent sized pad on it to go under the rear axle directly under the area where the spring and shock are....

....and then you can put an axle stand under the body behind the jacking point on the rear of the sill. The jacking point is here.....

....the area to put the stand is behind the jacking point.....

If you are going to use the jack that comes with the car then that makes things a little more awkward as you won't be able to use the jacking point to put the axle stand under,so you would have to put the stand under the axle (again under where the spring/shock is).

Normally I wouldn't recommend jacking or supporting a car under a rear axle beam as they can sometimes be damaged, but as long as you jack/support it directly under the spring/shock area then it will OK as that is the strongest point and you are far enough out not to bend anything on the axle.

Hopefully that all makes sense.

I didn't get chance to take any photos of the caliper,I will take my camera to work tomorrow and get the wheel off and take a few just incase you need some help with removing your caliper.:)

I've just merged another thread into this one,if you look back through it you'll see some pics I took of my Espace,it's only of the rear jacking points but it should give you an idea of what to look for.

Hope that helps.:)

Where should I put axle stands on a 1999 renault grand espace?

Hi new on here, just sold my Disco TD5, which I loved but now have a 3L V6 Espace which is very nice, anyway nice to meet you.

Now for my first issue, failed MOT on leaking rear caliper, so I need to change the rear caliper on my 1999 renault grand espace, but I'm not sure where to put the axle stand, any ideas?

Plus any guides on doing a caliper change as I dont have a workshop manual, as you all know Haynes dont do one, first car that I've had that doesnt!!

Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Hi,

Sorry i delated them by mistake and i know for fact i don't have them anymore:eek:,

If iam honest its not hard to do:d,

If your look along the bottom of the sill below the doors you will see 2 moulded shaped arrows and this is where the jack that is provided with your espace is to be located to jack the car up,

If you looking to jack the car up using another more conventional jack or even a bottle jack? if you get on your hands and knees and look under the car at the back of where the arrows are marked on the sills you will find a solid enough place there to use a jack or use axle stands,

Hope this makes sense,

Cheers Don
