My Laguna has the Renault "modification" fitted, namely a "clothes peg" spring on the pedal, the fault is within the master cylinder but causes no other problems other than pedal return, so Renault introduced this simple fix which does the job (think it may have been fitted on a "recall basis"?).

You are correct lags04 Renault did a recall on this problem to fix it or hope to (mine has gone three times twice under warranty, its quite a common fault with Lags don't know if the other models are affected by it ??

hi

Bought a laguna sport tourer 1.9dci last week and twice the clutch pedal has stuck down seems to only be when the car is hot ie been driving for over an hour. I have rang the local renualt dealership and the service guy said it was most likley the master cyclinder which is £80 but labour was £305

How much shoould i pay at an independant?

If i were you i would shop around for prices,Renault are stealers don't know where they get that £305 for labour its only an hrs job,and my renault dealer charges £85 per hr,think someones trying it mate, have you got a mr clutch or kwik fit near you try them for a quote..

I happened to come across this thread as I was browsing for "sinking clutch pedals" on MkII Laguna's. I just bought at 2002 Laguna DCi with 90,000. It runs like a dream, but sometimes the clutch pedal has "sunk" overnight. Once I've flicked it back up with my foot it doesn't appear to be remotely faulty, and is even nice and light to use. I just went to a Mr Clutch shop to seek their advice, they said it's probably the master and/or slave cylinder starting to fail. They couldn't see any fluid anywhere, so just told me to keep my eye on it for now. However, I asked about the price of replacing, and they said £500, and possibly another £500 if something else needed replacing (didn't hear exactly what as was just recovering from a heart-attack, I think it was a dual-flywheel or something??). Anyway, are they having me on, or is this how much its actually likely to cost? I just read that you replaced a cylinder yourself, so how can a clutch place be asking for this kind of money?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi mate i had the same problem with my lag took it in to dealers they couldnt find a fault...anyway the car was due to have the brake and clutch fluid changed i had it done and touch wood it hasn't happened again since..

Hi, i have exactly the same prob. My laguna sport dci dynamic 2007 I have been quoted to replace the slave cyclinder £889!!! And before that £150 to replace the master cyclinder. Everywhere I go they seem to be pretty sure that the slave would need to be replaced. From reading threads on the forum I would say it is a well known fault. Unless anyone else has any ideas? In order to get the cost down?! :)

Hi Jen s i would be inclined to get a few quotes on that sounds a rip off price that one,was that a dealer?? try KWIK FIT or Mr Clutch.i know if the slave is gone its a bigger job than just master cylinder, master cylinder replacement takes around an hour to do,i had mine done under warranty and was only in the dealers an hour..

The problem here is that it is very difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. Sometimes it's the master, sometimes the slave, or even both. Replacing the slave involves removing the (very heavy) gearbox. Depending on the mileage you might then think about changing the clutch while the box is out, then if it's a diesel you should change the dual-mass flywheel! Hence £££££. I've come accross this symptom on several Trafics (same gearbox essentially) and it's usually the slave.
Cheapest quote is.nt neccessarily best in the long run.

Hi spoke to another mechanic and he asked if it's leaking and making a noise. Apparently the fluid comes from the brake fluid. Well I haven't had to top up any fluid for the car since I have had it (3years) and I check it regularly. If it was the slave it would be leaving a puddle under the car, etc. So he has convinced me it probably is only the master cyclinder. It's so hard to make the right decision; but as you said the flywheel will have to be replaced too if its the slave cyclinder, which is mega ££££....

Hi All,

also having the pedal to the floor issue, only it's not intermittent like some reports on this thread.

I had the car towed to my trusted local garage and they tell me it's the slave cylinder.

Interestingly, I had a new clutch (and slave cylinder) fitted over Christmas by another garage so I am talking with them about getting it replaced under warranty.

Am I correct in understanding that I shouldn't have to pay the labour charge to get this fixed? I'm worried that the original garage will say that the part is covered but that I will need to pay the labour costs. That isn't right is it?

Many thanks in advance,
Craig.

Quick update after talking with the garage that did the clutch in December. They confirmed that the parts supplier will cover the cost of labour and supply the new parts.

I suddenly feel way less stressed :)

Of course, there's still a chance for it to bite me in the behind but I'm more hopeful now.

Will let you know the final outcome.

It was the slave cylinder. Thankfully all repaired under warranty/guarantee.

While the box was out the garage noticed oil leaking from the drive shaft boot (gearbox oil leaking) so that got replaced (at my expense). Glad they found that!

Quick question, the new clutch biting point is right near the floor, is there a way to adjust it or is that normal?

Thanks,
Craig.

hi, probably been answered already but was "passing" and saw the question. My 54 plate 1.9 DCi had this problem. It was a recall item. Known issue that Renault fixed for free.

Hi everyone,
I seem to be having the same clutch pedal problem as most of you. The car has had this fault ever since i bought it Five years ago but hasn't got any worse, However as i am selling it i thought i should do something about it!
So far i have only changed the brake fluid and bleed the complete system including the clutch side due to me changing the brake discs and pads, however this didn't work (Clutch system shares the brake resovoir).
I have now decided to go with the next cheapest option which is to fit one of those pedal springs everyone is talking about. I called Renault and they said my 1.9Dci wasn't on the recall list in 2006 and that he hadn't even heard of the fault! This i found hard to believe so i ordered a chlutch pedal spring (which is in the catalogue for my model) anyway. It's part number is 7701473045 and it cost me £3.85. I would put a picture of it on here but i am having trouble putting it on (If someone can tell me how then i will). Basically it has an overall length of 84mm with it's spring being 48mm long. On the ends there are plastic locators which are different at each end.
Now for the killer question!

HOW ON EARTH DO YOU FIT THE THING
